Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community located in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" area. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay in the city wasn't long. Brugel grew up in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. When she was a child, she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected increase in her height made it difficult. The Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. As I grew older than my male friends, I quit. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion by her drama teacher. She was encouraged to try out for roles in her school's production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the lead character of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions on small and big screens. She attracted the most attention when she landed the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actor in Season 1 and was only seen occasionally.
